County GOP Endorses Taylor

In a hotly contested race and a spirited convention, the Chisago County GOP voted to endorse Chisago City’s current mayor, and local contractor, Don Taylor for the Minnesota House of Representatives district 17B. Taylor will run against the one term incumbent, Jeremy Kalin in the fall election. The Chisago County Republican Endorsing Convention was held in the High School Auditorium in North Branch on Saturday, April 5.  Three candidates had announced and one candidate chose to enter the race during the final week.  Taylor won on the fourth ballot beating Wyoming mayor Sheldon Anderson.  Warren Nelson, Shafer Township and Jon Stignani, Lindstrom lost their races on the first and third ballots, respectively.

Jim Stein, chairman of the Chisago County Republican Party said, “We had four worthy candidates.  Now, the county party is ready to get behind Don Taylor and work to defeat a democrat who does not represent the people of this county.  There is more excitement than I have seen in years.  We are going to give Jeremy a run for his money. I can promise that Don Taylor is going to get all the support we can muster.”

Anderson addressed the convention and pledged to support Taylor in the fall election. Don Taylor thanked the delegates and pledged to make them proud.  “I will always conduct myself as a gentleman.  I will work day and night until the job is done.”  In an emotional victory speech, Taylor thanked his family saying, “You have always been my support and you all have my love…let’s go on and win in November.”

Taylor is planning a “Thank You Rally” in May and a “Listening Tour” of the county in early June.

Taylor and his family have lived, owned a home and paid taxes in Chisago County for 18 years.
